    1. The Sarawak Forest Activities Ordinance 2022 should be amended to make it fairer to the

Indigenous people who own vast forests and land. For hundreds of years the Orang Asal have been the responsible guardians of the forest. The amendment should include a percentage of revenue or royalty paid to forest and land owners. Now there is no clause that mentions payment to land and forest owners.

    2. The Carbon legislative meeting will be held after the Adilfitri celebration, said Deputy Prime Minister Fadilah Yusof. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim requested that laws related to carbon should be expedited. However, the rural communities that will receive the immediate effect of the implementation of the law should also be given an honest explanation. So the dialogue with stakeholders and stakeholders who will be affected should be expedited as well. Findings at the moment the rural communities do not know how carbon trading can help improve their economy.

*Unanswered Questions: Indigenous Rights and Samling's Carbon Study Permit*

Since the news of Samling Company - through its subsidiary SaraCarbon being granted a Carbon Study permit by the Sarawak Government on 39,000 hectares of land in Marudi was published. Local people there. Especially in Linai Marudi River. Where the area involved houses the Acacia monoculture farm - Syarikat Samling. Residents began visiting the Sahabat Alam office in Marudi to raise objections. Residents objected because they were unsure of the actual land area involved. They are also not sure whether they will be compensated or not or whether they will get a return from carbon trading by Samling on their land. Residents request that Samling organize an open dialogue. But according to Jok Jau. So far Samling conducts all their activities quietly and privately. Samling only met with the head of the village/household and a strong supporter of GPS. To give an explanation to the residents - SAM will organize a meeting with the residents next May. The majority of residents who came to the SAM office objected to the carbon credit project to be implemented by Samling. Residents are worried that they will lose their place to farm and get their daily needs. Because the rural poor are very dependent on the forest as a source of life. if carbon trading is enforced in their area. Then residents will be prevented from entering and farming in the area involved. Asked how good carbon trading should be for indigenous people. Jok Jau believes that every process that goes through should go through open consultation. There is an agreement that is binding and beneficial to both parties and agreed by the majority. The results of the profit and loss analysis of carbon trading carried out by Sarawak Report - through Verra Accreditation assessment agency. Samling through SaraCarbon will earn a profit of USD 2 billion for 39,000 hectares for 60 years. The Sarawak government will earn RM230 million through levies and royalties. The question is what do the people who look after and preserve the forest all this time get?. Jok Jau said the original people had been cheated in logging and plantation. By laws and implementation that are not transparent and unfair. Far more complicated carbon trading will see the original people cheated again.

*PKR's Opportunity: Consolidating in Sarawak's Opposition Landscape*

PSB's dissolution and joining of PDP as one of GPS's allies was expected. PSB's predecessor was also a BN/GPS-SUPP party, established to divide the opposition's support and votes, while also splintering PKR's members. Many PKR members joined PSB when it was formed, believing PSB's claim of being a Sarawakian grassroots opposition party. Now is a good time for PKR to consolidate its position in Sarawak's opposition and bring back members who were misled.
