Parliament Under Prime Ministerial Control Order | Broadcast 14 May 2020

ENGLISH - On today’s show, YB Wong Chen from PKR wonders if the Agong’s speech alone can even be considered a proper sitting. Even though the vote of no confidence might not happen on Monday, he says, it will happen sooner or later. They cannot postpone it indefinitely and another sitting looms in July. If the current government truly doesn’t command the confidence of the house, then a general election could be the only way to break the political deadlock. While the people might prefer prioritising of health and economy over politicking, he says, they want a legitimate government to preside over those.

Voon Lee Shan, the President of Parti Bumi Kenyalang, is also appalled that they would drag everyone in just to listen to the Agong’s speech and then go home. The Prime Minister should at least address the house and then there should at least be some debate on the Agong’s address. But surely that begs the question of at least the supply bill and at least the vote of no confidence against him. Currently, there is no parliamentary democracy, he says.

Meanwhile, in part two of our interview with Wathshlah Naidu of CIJ, she takes us through the potential for abuse of power through control of the media. If parliament doesn’t sit, let alone debate, and media coverage is controlled, we see the children of politicians like Zahid Hamidi, now powerful again, being shielded from scrutiny. Even worse, politicians are never questioned, either in the chamber or outside it. This is free rein to behave badly in every way.

We end with Gideon Chong who has returned to Sarawak after many years in the USA, leaving a good job to help build his own home state. Sarawak needs a huge mindset change, he says, to allow them to seek for self-reliance and self-determination. But Sarawak is now building its own strength, which it will need in a post-covid world. Nevertheless, there is hope for the future and good reason for optimism. After all, a health crisis like this is a great catalyst for mindset change!

Pekara nya enda tau digantung sida klalu lama, lalu parliament deka baum baru dalam bulan tujuh tu ila. Enti perintah ti diatu nadai disukung parliament, nya baru bapilih besai deka diatur dikena mutarka pekara politik diatu. Rayat diatu brat agi ka pengerai lalu kurang ibuhka politik, taja begunaka perintah ti betul ngatur semua pekara.

President Parti Bumi Kenyalang Voon Lee Shan enda setujuka bala MP semina dibai mendingka jaku Agong udah nya pulai ke rumah. Menteri Besai patut bejaku ngelaluka  bala MP, udah nya lalu bejuraika pekara ti dalam jaku Agong. Tang nya tetap meri awak endur bejuraika anggar-anggar belanja tambah enggau undi nadai pengarap ati ka Menteri Besai. Ku iya, diatu parliament melakangka adat democracy.

Dalam randau kami enggau Wathshlah Naidu ari CIJ, iya ngenang pasal perintah ti salah kuasa dikena nagang pengarang berita. Enti parliament nadai baum, lalu bala pengarang berita ditagang datai ke parliament, nya ngasilka bala anak kita sebaka enggau penyai ulah anak bala orang politik  sebaka enggau anak Zahid Hamidi, ti bekuasa kring baru dalam politik ti nerabai sida ditinggang adat lebuh ngereja penyalah. Pekara ti nyata salah, nya orang politik nadai dipansik lebuh sida dalam parliament tauka diluar. Tu atur ti meri awak sida beperangai ti enda manah.
